Terminals

A terminal is a distribution or transport hub where products or people change their mode of transport. The Port of Rotterdam has some of the world’s most modern terminals. They provide fast, automated handling of cargo such as containers, dry bulk, liquid bulk, breakbulkandLNG. Several terminals have direct connections to deep sea and feeder (smaller vessels),short-sea (coastal shipping), Roll on /Roll off, road, railandinland waterways.

The standard size of a container is called TEU. Containers can be moved at terminals usingquay cranesandcontainer lifts. Computer-operated cranes know where the containers with a specific destination are located and ensure that those containers are found when a ship with that destination is loaded.
