Industry
Represented by more than 120 companies, the manufacturing industry is a major presence at the Port of Rotterdam. With a high-tech supply chain, this makes the port an important pillar of South Holland's economy. Roughly speaking, it is divided between the energy industry and the chemical industry.
Energy
Rotterdam has the largest renewable industry cluster in the world. It’s a European hub for biofuels, making it the perfect location for biomass supply and transit. These companies produce biodiesel, bioethanol and renewable diesel. The biofuels are used for things such as road transport, shipping and aviation.
Chemical industry
The chemical industry is responsible for many products we use every day. It makes products through chemical changes to existing (raw) materials. This sector includes all companies that use chemical processes for their industrial production.The presence of so many chemical companies and refineries makes Rotterdam a real petrochemical hot spot.
