Skipper inland navigation
The vocational training program to become a captain is a combination of working on a ship and studying. With eight weeks of classes per year, you primarily learn the trade through hands-on experience. This means you will need to be very independent, both on board and at school. You start as a deckhand and gradually advance to the role of captain throughout your training. Under the supervision of your superior on board, you will also be responsible for navigation, loading, and unloading.
