Do you want to ensure that the world remains livable and accessible by building various connections, such as bridges, metro tunnels, or dams? Then the Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is the right program for you!
Harness your curiosity to develop solutions for the challenges we face as a society: from climate change to limited space in cities and overpopulation. You will achieve this by delving into sustainable design, technical execution, and the management of (water)ways, buildings, bridges, tunnels, and dikes.
You will become a civil engineering expert who can think ahead. Someone who knows everything about large constructions, hydraulic engineering, geotechnics, infrastructure, and modeling. You will work on cases that address current and societal issues. For example, consider the rapid population growth in Rotterdam-South. How will all these residents gain quick access to the city center? Or the rapid rise in sea levels—will you opt for reinforcing dikes or choose other climate-adaptive measures?
Your instructors will guide you through all aspects of the design process and its execution. And who knows, you might even contribute to one of these solutions during your internship! You’ll do all this in the heart of Rotterdam: a testing ground for major architectural feats and unique constructions. If you can succeed in Rotterdam, you can succeed anywhere. We’ll also show you this during various excursions both domestically and abroad.
As a civil engineer, you can choose from a variety of professions and projects. From working as a contractor in road and water construction, to being a designer at an engineering firm, or serving as an advisor for the government.
Whatever you choose, you will have significant impact. You will ensure that people travel safely to work, school, and other destinations. You will help keep residential areas and industrial sites clean with underground infrastructure. You will contribute to climate control through the design of a wind farm. You will improve people's lives by keeping (inter)national infrastructure safe and efficient. And with that, you are almost guaranteed a job, either at home or abroad.
