Civil Engineering dual
Do you not just want to make plans for a better-built environment but also develop and implement them to bring them to fruition? Then Civil Engineering is for you!
With the Civil Engineering program, you will address the impacts of climate change and ensure that our growing cities remain livable. You will achieve this by formulating solutions, developing them technically, and actually building them. You will shape our living environment, thereby impacting the daily lives of thousands of people.
For example, consider the rising sea levels. Will you respond by reinforcing our dikes, or will you design new Delta Works to keep more than a million people safe from high waters? Or will you focus closer to home and ensure that everyone in your street stays dry during extreme rainfall? In short, you will provide technical answers to these important questions.
Additionally, as our cities grow, livability is under pressure. Cities are becoming hotter, and if everyone travels by car, no one will reach their destination. Can you redesign our cities to guarantee livability so that everyone can continue to live, work, and enjoy recreational activities? In short, will you design the infrastructure and public spaces to shape the city of the future?
As a future engineer, you could contribute in various ways, such as designing solutions as a modeler at an engineering firm, leading the construction process as a contractor, or formulating field tasks for the government. But that’s not all. You can also work for less obvious employers like network operators, public transportation companies, and steel manufacturers.
In summary, there are ample opportunities for you to contribute to the major societal challenges of today and tomorrow.
